Their relationship got worse when she was pregnant with Ruby and stopped speaking after that. The day that Samantha crashed onto Earth in her pod, Patricia discovered it. When she opened the pod and discovered a baby was placed inside it, she could see how helpless and scared the baby was. She then took care of the child as if she were her own, and named her Samantha. As Samantha grew up, Patricia took her swimming on Mondays and Wednesdays. However, when Samantha became pregnant as a teenager, Patricia forced her daughter to choose between the baby and her life at home. Samantha chose to have the baby, and Patricia kicked her out of the house for choosing this option. The two hadn't spoken since, and Patricia never knew the name of her adoptive granddaughter.

Patricia led her outside to a barn, where a large object was covered with a tarp. When pulled it back to reveal a pod, Patricia explained that she'd lied about adopting her. She found her in the pod when she was still a baby, and Sam was confused. Patricia said that she was as well, because she didn't know where she was from or who left her in the pod or why. She knew the child was helpless and needed a family, so she took her in and promised to tell Sam when she turned eighteen. However, she was long gone by then. Sam examined the pod and caused it to turn on, much to both of their surprise. To further the surprise, a beacon emerged from the pod which Sam took.
Death
Patricia was stabbed by Reign after confronting her as she tried to reach out to Sam. She was then taken to D.E.O. headquarters where she asked Kara to tell Ruby that she loved her which she promised to do before she died of her injuries.
