While growing up, Billy Koenig nicknamed his brother, Eric Koenig, "Lightning Foot." He, like all of his brothers, was picked on by his older sister LT Koenig. Billy and Eric were stationed at secret safe houses belonging to Nick Fury in the aftermath of the Battle of New York. As the bases were not named, Koenig called his base the Playground, while his brother named his base Providence. While stationed at the base for two years, Billy and Eric Koenig continued to communicate and played online games with each other. Billy and Sam Koenig also worked as technicians at the original Life-Model Decoy program. During the HYDRA Uprising Koenig remained at the Playground and got word that brother Eric Koenig had been murdered by the HYDRA agent Grant Ward.

Secret Missions
Koenig strapped in as Melinda May and Antoine Triplett combined their piloting skills to save the Bus from destruction from four HYDRA Quinjets. When Triplett asked Sam where his brother was, he gave a cryptic message that Billy needed to recharge his batteries; Triplett did not appreciate the answer.

- Walther PPK/S : The Koenigs used a Walther PPK/S as their sidearm. Billy grabbed his gun inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. Safe House in Vancouver, during his assignment to protect Raina from HYDRA, as someone knocked at the door. He did not use it against Agent 33 not to hurt Skye, who hurried to fight her. Billy also used it to point at Grant Ward when he kidnapped Skye on the Bus, and was about to kill Ward to avenge his brother Eric, but his other brother, Sam, convinced him not to do it.

The Original Program
S.H.I.E.L.D. technicians Eric, Billy and Sam Koenig worked together on the original LMD Program. However, despite the efforts, they never achieved to built a fully functional android. Eventually, the project was abandoned.
Aida
The Life-Model Decoy Program was secretly reactivated years later by Dr. Holden Radcliffe, who was cooperating with S.H.I.E.L.D. and had befriended S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist Leo Fitz. Using the LMD program's technology, Radcliffe successfully transferred the data of his personal digital assistant A.I.D.A. into an android body. Radcliffe never disclosed Aida's true nature to anyone but Fitz until he was forced to admit that he had worked on the LMD program without S.H.I.E.L.D. proper authorization.
More Androids
Under the corrupting influence of the Darkhold, Holden Radcliffe and Aida successfully built many LMDs. These notably included androids of Melinda May, Phil Coulson, Leo Fitz, Jeffrey Mace, Alphonso Mackenzie as well as several LMDs of Daisy Johnson and a LMD of Radcliffe himself. Unlike Aida, who was running on extremely sophisticated computer programs, these LMDs were functioning with Quantum Brains.
