From there he orchestrated the formation of the Advanced Threat Containment Unit and manipulated the agency into collecting the newly transformed Inhumans to build an army for HYDRA's ancient leader to command. In the aftermath of Baron Wolfgang von Strucker's defeat, Malick joined forces with Grant Ward so they could destroy S.H.I.E.L.D. and finish Project Distant Star Return to accomplish HYDRA's oldest goal. Despite Ward's death on Maveth, Malick's plans were fulfilled when Hive possessed Ward's corpse and returned to Earth. Three months later, Malick and Hive started a campaign to change the world in HYDRA's image, but the HYDRA leader soon realized the extent to which his idol had misled him, as he lost influence within HYDRA and saw his own family and ultimately himself destroyed by Hive.

While Malick prefers to present himself as a brave man who is willing to sacrifice his own life to HYDRA's cause, in reality he had never taken a life before Hive ordered him to kill Rowan Hamilton and had spent much of his life avoiding death at all costs, by cheating at the ritualistic ceremonies where a tribute was sent to Maveth as a sacrifice to Hive. His need to survive led him to allow his own brother to be selected as tribute in his place.
When Charles Hinton gave Malick a vision of his own death at the hands of Hive, Malick put all his effort into trying to find a way out of his situation until finally he was confronted by his brother's memories, living on within Hive, at which point Malick accepted his fate but was forced to watch as Hive killed his daughter instead. When Daisy Johnson, who had been enthralled by Hive, was ordered to kill him, Malick did not even attempt to defend himself, feeling that his death meant he would be reunited with his daughter.

Transia Corporation Exoskeleton
- Enhanced Strength : When Malick was provided with the Transia Corporation Exoskeleton, he gained incredible strength which allowed him to overturn a large table. Under the orders of Hive, Malick used the Exoskeleton to crush Rowan Hamilton's skull before breaking Charles Hinton's neck and nearly beating Daisy Johnson to death until the suit was damaged by a shockwave fired by Johnson.
- Master Spy : Malick used his skills as a spy to infiltrate the World Security Council, become an advisor to President Matthew Ellis, and found the ATCU, all while hiding his allegiance with HYDRA from them.
- Master Tactician : Malick spent decades working on his plan to build an army for Hive's return, in order to do his he manipulated Matthew Ellis and Rosalind Price to create the Advanced Threat Containment Unit to store Inhumans while he also conducted his own experiments. He also attempted to convince Anton Petrov to set up an Inhuman sanctuary in Russia. He is more than capable of betraying former allies like Werner von Strucker if he felt a superior ally such as Grant Ward was of more benefit to his plans.
- Expert Marksman : While Malick has never used a firearm to kill another person, he has proven himself as an expert shot while accurately firing at clay pigeons with his daughter.
- Transia Corporation Exoskeleton : In order to have Malick experience true power, Hive had Malick wear the Exoskeleton designed by the Transia Corporation. Malick used the Exoskeleton to destroy vases and tables before crushing Rowan Hamilton's skull and attempting to beat Daisy Johnson to death. The Exoskeleton was damaged beyond repair however when Johnson during their fight.
- CZ Readhead Deluxe : Gideon and Stephanie Malick practiced clay pigeon shooting with a pair of these shotguns while they discussed the outcome of the plans for a sanctuary state for Inhumans in Russia and what could Hive's plan be.
